Bicycle Safety InformationWhen most people think of bicycle safety, the first thought that crosses their minds is concern for children's safety. Children tend to be injured more often than adult cyclists. Mainly, that's because there are so many more children riding than adults. Children fall more often than adults, but adult cyclists are more likely to be involved in collisions with automobiles. Everyone needs to be concerned about bicycle safety:
Bicycling safely is about more than helmets. Helmet use is important. It gives vital protection for your head in a crash. Most serious and fatal injuries to cyclists involve injuries to the head or brain. Your helmet doesn't protect other parts of your body, or prevent you from falling or being in a collision. Cyclists must also operate by the rules of the road and need to learn proper techniques for riding safely to prevent collisions and avoid crashes. The Saskatoon and District Safety Council does not provide bicycle safety programs directly. Our focus is on providing services that are not provided by others in the community. In Saskatoon and area, there are many dedicated organizations committed to delivering programs for bicycle safety, education and information. More information: |
