Defensive Driving Course and 55 Alive Driver Refresher Course

General Terms and Conditions
Inclusions and Exclusions

Course price includes: Six hours of classroom instruction or six hours of privately arranged instruction with a minimum of one certified instructor, student workbook, and course handouts. Breaks are arranged with the agreement of the majority of participants. For day-long courses, one meal break is provided. The cost of the meal is not included in the course price. Participants may bring lunch money or a bag lunch.

What to bring

You should bring a pen or pencil for completing the student workbook. You may also find it helpful to bring a notepad for taking additional notes.

Reservations and Confirmations

To reserve your participation in a course, full payment is required seven (7) days before the start date. We must receive your completed registration form and full payment seven (7) days before the start date in order to confirm your registration. Late registrations (registrations fewer than seven days before the start date) may be accepted at the discretion of the course administrator or the instructor.

Cancellations and Refunds

If you find it necessary to cancel your reservation and we receive written notice (by mail, e-mail or facsimile) seven (7) or more days before the course start date, we'll refund all of your payment, less a $25.00 cancellation fee. If you cancel less than seven (7) days before the start date or fail to show up for a course, there is no refund. This requirement may be waived in exceptional circumstances, at the discretion of the course administrator or the instructor. Exceptional circumstances may include family emergencies or adverse weather or road conditions. If you are unable to attend your course, it is your obligation to let us know.

We may cancel the course because of insufficient registrations or unforeseeable circumstances. If we cancel the course, we will refund all of your payments or credit your payments to another course. In the event of insufficient registrations, we will notify registrants at least seven (7) days in advance if the course must be cancelled. In the event of emergencies and other unforeseen circumstances, we will notify participants as early as possible, but cannot guarantee seven days' notice. We are not responsible for additional costs such as non-refundable travel, time off work, etc.

All participants are expected to show proper courtesy and respect for the course administrator, the instructor(s) and fellow participants. Anyone who disrupts the class may be removed from the course. There is no refund for anyone removed from the course. No one will be asked to leave a course without cause, however, nor without receiving reasonable opportunity to comply with the course requirements.

Returned cheques

We will charge you $25.00 for each cheque that is returned NSF. If this fee is not paid, we will not issue your course completion certificate.

GST

The federal Goods and Services Tax, GST (7%), is charged on all courses. The tax is not included in the course price.

Course difficulty

Defensive Driving and 55 Alive are classroom-based refresher courses for existing drivers with at least some experience. If you do not have a current driver's licence, you should have a good understanding of the SGI Driver's Handbook and the rules of the road. There are no physical requirements which must be met before taking the course.

Arrival and departure

Courses begin and end at the locations and times provided to you by the course administrator or instructor. Directions and other details will be sent to you when you register. The course starts on time. People who arrive after the course has started miss out on important information. If you are more than 10 minutes late for the course, your registration is cancelled.

Courses for Employers and other Organizations

If you would like a course exclusively for your workplace or for members of your organization, please contact us. We offer reduced rates for courses conducted at your place of work.
